The “Light” is still Good

“God saw that the light was good (pleasing, useful) and He affirmed and sustained it; and God separated the light [distinguishing it] from the darkness.” Genesis 1:4 AMP

Is it any wonder that God’s Goodness shows up bright and early, as in first thing in the morning? And just as importantly, it shows up as early as the very first chapter of the Holy Bible, which makes God’s Goodness foundational, as it was first ascribed to “the light” which our benevolent heavenly Father willed forth. Light is one of our world’s building and operational blocks which is personified in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior as He proclaims, “I am the Light of the world” (John 8:12). And what did God do as He acknowledged the goodness of the physical light He had just willed into existence? He separated it from the darkness, set it apart as He also wants us to be set apart from “the world” unto Himself (“Be ye holy; for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16).

The Amplified Bible states that the light was “pleasing and useful” with which I could not agree more, as a sunless day is just not the same as a bright and sunny one, on so many levels including those of motivation and enthusiasm. During the winter months, many people (about 5% globally) suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) which is caused by insufficient exposure to light. Studies have revealed that the positive effect of sunlight on our brain cannot be denied, as it has even been shown to “reduce symptoms of depression, as effectively as some medications.” (scienceinsights.org). How much more then, does the “Light” Himself, Jesus Christ, enhance a human being’s life (“He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12)

As Christ followers who have been endued with “the Light of life”, Jesus himself, who refers to us, as “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14), we amazingly reflect His Light much like the moon reflects the sun’s.

Each new dawn and day with its first light, is a testament and proof of God’s goodness. May we embrace each it as such, as we enjoy the beauty of that light, make the most of it and praise our God for it. Here’s an item for our gratitude list: “Light”! “Early bird gets the worm”, and the light!

Each new dawn is also a reminder that we are to be about our Father’s business and not hide our God given light but rather, let it shine, shine, shine, as the old song says and as Jesus commands us to do in Matthew 5:16: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your GOOD works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
